There is a side of me that thinks that COVID-19 is making people think about the bigger, more important things in life. This whole epidemic has been bizarre, scary and depressing.
It feels out of control and we don’t totally know the outcome. This is all part of our general unease right now. My heart goes out to the many people impacted by COVID-19, especially those who have lost loved ones. The stories are heart wrenching.
It was only a few weeks ago that I launched my new business, OurPlanet365. It is about helping companies with their environmental sustainability platform. At first, I was distraught by the timing and thought it was nuts to launch something during such a tumultuous time. Did I make a mistake? Should I have waited?
As the weeks went on, I started to notice a softer, more unhurried side of people coming out. Maybe it was the telecommuting. Maybe people realized they had their health and that was what mattered. Or that they could lose their health at any moment.
I now think that people are looking at the larger, more significant things in life and on this earth. It is not just about scurrying to work in long commutes, making lots of money and doing it again the next day.
We are witnessing how people come together, to help each other, to try to develop smart solutions. We are more clearly understanding how what is done on one side of the planet impacts the other side. And how quickly the negative impacts can spread. We are also being reminded how some developing nations are not quite ready for the fallout of all of this even though they didn’t start the problems.
There are lots of parallels to the environment. The risks of not doing anything are immense with both.
